Great Work Everyone & Deborah's Crits

Well done to those who posted their work - some excellent pages with great composition coming through. See below for my annotated crits, which will make more sense when I run through them in class tonight. Don't forget to bring your inking gear - brushpen/brush & ink plus microns/finer pens for detail, as well as your pencilling gear so you can plough ahead with your pencils whilst experimenting with inking for the first time. See you this evening!

Caitlin's 5th and 6th page

Ok here are the next two pages, the photos might be too dark but i'm not sure if i'll have time to upload again before class

Page 5: All i had to do was break the espresso machine

Page 6: A ROBOT SPY?!

Angie's first page

Ok, so there's only one page done, but I think you can see why. I will clearly have to learn to use a lighter hand on my pencils. I am not relishing the erasing that will have to happen in the near future!

Brian's First 2 Pages

Finished the first 2 pages from my thumbnails. Ditto on the slow going. Let me know what you think!

Cindy's First 2 Pages - pencils

Its been a slow process. Most of the stress rising from trying to fit the words in (not so much on these pages, but on later ones).
Also, I did not anticipate my paper being larger than my scanner bed, hence the crazy shadows.

Please be kind!

Caitlin's first 4 pages

Right, so doing a page takes a lot longer than expected so i've only finished 4 this weekend. Also the scanner at work is really lousy so i had to take pictures of my pages, even then they look better in person. Also I've been thinking these would look awesome with touch of water colors.

Here's the first page:
Ok here's the second:

And the third... (this is the one where what looks like a 3rd grader's birthday invite, is actually supposed to be respectable newsprint..)
And the fourth:

That's all i have now. Let me know if you see any glaring mistakes/ can't see the photos well enough. Okay happy drawing y'all!

Welcome!

Hi all,
I've set up this blog so all of you can post your work here and follow each others' progress over the next 5 weeks. I'll run through how the process will work in class, but for now here's a sample page that I critiqued for last year's Stanford Graphic Novel project of a student's pencils.

We'll cover pencilling this week, but this is just to have everything in place ahead of tomorrow night's class.
